The Shenkman Arts Centre opened on June 18, 2009, after 20 years of calls for an arts facility within Ottawa’s east end community. The centre is a multidisciplinary and bilingual arts facility located in Orléans. Comprised of two theatres, seven galleries and 17 studios, it is always alive with creative activity. The Centre offers a plethora of diverse programs, most of which are funded through ARTicipate. Resident arts partners include the OYP Theatre School, Ottawa School of Art, Mouvement d’Implication Francophone d’Orléans, Gloucester Pottery School and AOE Arts Council. The Centre is also home of Tara Luz Danse, a company devoted to local artistic projects in schools and communities under the tutelage of Artistic Director Anik Bouvrette. The Shenkman Arts Centre is devoted to exhibiting local talent and being a hub for creative minds to explore their artistic ability.
